On November 9th, 2019, the Cross-Strait Conference on Foreign Language Teaching was held at the School of Foreign Languages, Jilin University. The conference is sponsored by the School of Foreign Languages, Northeast Asia International Language, Culture Research Base and Northeast Asia International Language and Culture Research Center of Jilin University, and co-organized by the Foreign Language and Literature Teaching Steering Committee of Ministry of Education, the Japanese Language Teaching and Research Association of China and the Japan Foundation for International Exchange. Hundreds of experts and scholars from more than 30 colleges and universities cross-strait attended the meeting. Politics University, Dongwu University, Jingyi University, Taiwan University, Furen University, Danjiang University, Donghai University, Beijing Foreign Language University, Shanghai Foreign Studies University, Xiamen University, Tongji University, Guangdong Foreign Language and Trade University, Central China Normal University, Harbin Industrial University, Northeast Normal University, and Jilin University are among those universities.
Professor Feng Zhengyu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Jilin University, Vice Chairman of the Foreign Language and Literature Teaching Steering Committee of Ministry of Education, Honorary President of Sino-Japanese Language Teaching and Research Association and former President of Tianjin Foreign Language University, Professor Xiu Gang, and former Dean of Politics University, Professor Yu Naiming delivered speeches at the opening ceremony respectively. The ceremony of the conference was presided over by Professor Zhou Yifu , Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Jilin University and President of Sino- Japanese Language Teaching and Research Association. After the opening ceremony, Professor Xiu Gang from Tianjin Foreign Language University, Professor Lai Jinque from Dongwu University and Associate Professor You Xueying from Politics University delivered keynote speeches respectively.
The theme of the conference is "first-class undergraduate discipleline and curriculum construction". There are five sub-sessions in English, Japanese, Russian, Korean and Spanish. In a warm and harmonious atmosphere, scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Strait conducted in-depth discussions on issues such as "the current situation and development of foreign language education", "the development of foreign language major in the era of AI" and "the construction of online courses".
The closing ceremony was presided over by Professor Hu Jianjun, the vice dean of the School of Foreign Languages of Jilin University. Each sub-session of the discussion was summarized and reported one by one. Professor Xiu Gang from Tianjin Foreign Language University, Professor Zeng Lirong, Dean of School of Foreign Languages from Jingyi University, and Professor Zhou Yifu, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Jilin University delivered speeches at the closing ceremony, and spoke highly of the achievements of the conference.
This seminar provides a good platform for the communication of experts and scholars from both sides of the Straits. It not only strengthens the relationship between them, but also promotes the mutual learning and cooperation of foreign language education between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits, and plays a positive role in promoting the reform and development of foreign language education in the new era.
