Wang Hefei Won the Third Prize in the Cross-Straits Interpreting Contest and the First Session of Invitational Tournament for Chinese and Russian University Students

On April 22nd, 2017, the Cross-Straits Interpreting Contest and the First Session of Invitational Tournament for Chinese and Russian was held in Xiamen University. Wang Hefei, a student of College of Foreign Languages, presented an excellent performance and won the third prize in this contest.

 

This contest included two parts: gist interpreting and dialogue interpreting, among which, topics of environment protection, ancient Chinese philosopher, places of interest in Beijing and modern trip mode, etc. were involved in the former part, in which contestants’ abilities of information analysis, refining and memory, bilingual pronunciation, sentence making and fluent expression were deliberately examined. Dialogue interpreting, on the other hand, aimed to check their two-way interpreting competence, communication and comprehensive quality. 24 excellent contestants from 22 universities in both mainland and Taiwan as well as Russia (including Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Tamkang University, Fudan University, Moscow State University, Shanghai International Studies University) were present in this contest.

 

Altogether 6 Chinese scholars (Professor Huang Mei, the vice-chairman of the Association of Chinese Teachers of Russian Language and Literature and dean of college of Russian in Beijing Foreign Studies University, Professor Bai Wenchang, the vice-chairman of the Association of Chinese Teachers of Russian Language and Literature and dean of college of Russian in Heilongjiang University, Professor Wang Jiaxing, the vice-chairman of Adviser Committee of Foreign Language Teaching in Higher Institutes, Ministry of Education and chairman of Russian Research Center in Nanjing University, Associate Professor Su Shuyan, head of Russian Department in Tamkang University, Professor Yang Shizhang from Russian Department in Shanghai International Studies University, Professor Yang Jie, head of European languages and literatures in Xiamen University) and Анна Аллаберт (host of Chinese Radio International) were invited to be the judges in this contest.

 

This invitational tournament, as inheritance and innovation, is derived from the Cross-straits Interpreting Contest (English), which has been successfully held for successive six years since 2009 in Xiamen University. It enhances understanding of interpreter, and at the same time inspires young students’ enthusiasm of learning interpreting. It plays a positive role in cultivating and exploring the Russian interpreters, promoting the Russian Interpreting Education on both sides of the straits and the peaceful development of cross-straits relations.
